Our Story

Over two decades of building the web — and solving its problems.

We are a husband-and-wife duo who founded a web development agency, and between us and our team of developers we have spent well over two decades building, launching and supporting websites for businesses of every shape and size.

What set us apart early on was breadth. Starting out 25+ years ago, you simply could not afford to specialise. To build and launch a website as a freelancer, you had to understand all of it - front end, back end, DNS, hosting, domains, performance, security. Today even brilliant developers tend to go deep in one area. We grew up needing to understand the whole picture, and that full-stack perspective is still baked into everything we do. We genuinely believe every day is a school day - but we also know how much there is to know, which is why anyone who claims to know it all almost certainly does not. The web is endlessly evolving and we love it for that. It is also why SiteVitals covers all the bases: the problems that do not fall neatly into anyone's job title are often the ones that cause the most damage.

Over those years we have worked with everyone from the solo trader juggling ten things at once, to marketing teams at growing brands, to household names whose sites see millions of visitors a day. We became the outsourced technical backbone for large design agencies back when “digital” was still a scary new word - helping them build departments and sell digital services with confidence.

“The problems we kept seeing were not complicated. They were just hidden - until they caused a real headache.”

A page slows because someone uploaded a 4MB photo to the homepage. A domain expires because the renewal email went to a former employee. An SSL certificate does not renew and Chrome starts warning visitors away. A Google ranking dips and nobody notices for three weeks.

These are not edge cases. They happen all the time. And they cost real money. SiteVitals was born out of seeing exactly these patterns play out, over and over again, across every size of business.

2007
Agency founded. A lot of late nights - born of passion rather than struggle. We just loved making the web, and that has never really changed.
2007–2009
Became the technical backbone for major design agencies across the UK - helping them build digital departments and start selling web services with confidence.
2010–2020
Portfolio grows to include NHS, BBC Two, Aardman, national charities and growing brands. Multiple award wins for innovation. The same patterns keep emerging - great sites, avoidable problems.
2021 onwards
The idea for SiteVitals starts to take shape - a tool to give every business the kind of oversight that used to require a full-time developer.
Now & Next
With AI search reshaping how businesses are found online, Technical SEO has never mattered more. SiteVitals is built for this moment - making sure your site is in the best possible shape for humans and algorithms alike.
Why It Matters

Real things that happen to real businesses.

We did not build SiteVitals around hypothetical problems. Every scenario below is something we have seen - or helped someone recover from.

A note on Technical SEO: AI-powered search is changing everything. Agentic AI tools are increasingly deciding which websites to surface and recommend - and they rely on your site being technically sound. SiteVitals helps make sure it is.

The slow homepage nobody noticed

Someone uploads a beautiful new hero image - 4MB, straight from their phone. Your homepage load time triples. Your bounce rate climbs. Your Google ranking dips. Three weeks pass before anyone connects the dots.

The domain that almost disappeared

A client of ours nearly lost a 20-year-old domain because the renewal email went to an inbox nobody checked. It was not the first time we had seen that happen - and it never gets any less stressful. SiteVitals flags your domain expiry well in advance, so there is never anything to panic about.

The SSL certificate that did not renew

SSL certificates are supposed to auto-renew - and usually do. But sometimes they do not, for all kinds of reasons. When that happens, browsers show a “Not Secure” warning and visitors leave. SiteVitals flags your certificate when it is running low, giving you time to act before any visitor ever sees a warning.

The Google ranking that slipped away

Performance is a ranking signal. A site that used to load in 2 seconds but now takes 6 will slide in search results - gradually, without a single notification, until you are wondering where all the enquiries went.

The monthly SEO check that misses everything in between

A single monthly audit is a snapshot, not a story. Performance fluctuates constantly and a lot can go wrong in 30 days. Continuous monitoring gives a far more accurate picture - and a month of SiteVitals costs less than a single hour of developer time.

The site that went down on a Sunday

Without monitoring, the first person to know your site is down is often a customer who has already left. SiteVitals checks uptime around the clock and alerts you the moment something goes wrong.

The broken page nobody could explain

A restaurant chain we worked with had a site that suddenly looked completely broken - not down, just visually shattered. The culprit was a third-party web font whose license had been exceeded. SiteVitals monitors external scripts and dependencies so these hidden single points of failure get caught before a customer has to tell you.

The change nobody remembered making

Something dropped in performance last Tuesday. But what changed? SiteVitals lets you log your own site events - “Updated homepage image”, “Installed new plugin”, “Changed H1 tag” - so when something shifts, you have a timeline to look back at. We call it Change Intelligence: forensics, not guesswork.

What SiteVitals Does

Everything a watchful developer keeps an eye on.

SiteVitals is the always-on technical oversight your website deserves - without the salary. Here is what it monitors, checks and flags on your behalf.

Built for the overworked marketer, the non-techy agency account manager, and the founder who wears every hat.

Performance Monitoring

Tracks how fast your pages load and alerts you when performance drops - so a large image or slow plugin does not damage your rankings or drive visitors away before you even know about it.

“Why is our homepage slow all of a sudden?” - answered before your visitors ask it first.

📊

Core Web Vitals Tracking

Google uses these specific metrics to decide how well your site ranks. SiteVitals keeps a continuous eye on them so you are never caught off guard by a dip in search performance.

The checks your SEO agency does once a month - we run them every day.

🟢

Uptime Monitoring

If your site goes offline, you will know within minutes - not when a customer emails to say they could not place an order.

Peace of mind that someone is always watching, even at 3am on a bank holiday.

🛡️

SSL Certificate Alerts

Gives you early warning when your SSL certificate is approaching renewal, so you have time to act well before it affects any of your visitors.

A heads-up that keeps the “Not Secure” message from ever appearing.

🌍

Domain Integrity Checks

Monitors your domain registration and flags when renewal is approaching - long before it ever becomes urgent.

After nearly watching a client's 20-year-old domain disappear, we made this a core feature.

🔗

Third-Party Script Monitoring

Checks the external scripts, fonts and services your site depends on - because when a third-party breaks, your site can look broken too, even if your own code is perfectly fine.

Catches the hidden points of failure that most monitoring tools miss entirely.

📍

Change Intelligence

Log your own site changes - plugin updates, new images, content edits - and overlay them against your performance data. When something shifts, you can see exactly what happened and when. Tom calls it Change Intelligence, and it is one of the features clients use most once they discover it.

No more “it just started happening” - now you have a proper timeline to work from.

🔍

SEO Essentials

Keeps an eye on the technical SEO fundamentals - the things that affect whether search engines and AI tools can properly find, read, and rank what you do.

As AI search grows, being technically sound matters more than ever. This is your baseline.

The Business Case

It does not just protect your site.
It saves you money.

Continuous checks beat monthly snapshots

A lot can go wrong in 30 days. One monthly check is a single data point. SiteVitals monitors constantly - and a full month costs less than a single hour of developer time.

Catch problems in minutes, not weeks

Every day your site underperforms costs you in rankings, traffic and conversions. Early alerts mean smaller problems - and smaller bills when things do need fixing.

Avoid emergency developer costs

A nearly-lapsed SSL caught early is a five-minute fix. The same issue discovered three days later by a customer is an emergency with an emergency price tag.

Protect your SEO investment

A performance drop can undo months of SEO work. SiteVitals keeps you informed before Google makes decisions you never saw coming.

Accessible pricing, because that was always the point.

Some hosting platforms offer similar monitoring - but only to customers on enterprise plans, at significant extra cost. SiteVitals is independent, uptime monitoring is free, and paid plans start from just £2.50 per month. We are a small, agile team without big sales overheads, and we have always believed good tools should not be locked behind big budgets.

Who It's For

You do not need to be technical. That is the point.

Great for agencies

🌐
The Freelancer or Web Agency

Managing multiple client websites? SiteVitals lets you monitor all of them in one place, share access and reports with clients, and stay ahead of issues before they land in your inbox. Whether you are a freelance web designer, an SEO agency, or a full-service studio, one SiteVitals account covers your whole client portfolio.

👨‍💼The Sole Trader

You built your website, got on with your business, and now there are a hundred things more urgent than checking if it is still performing. SiteVitals watches so you do not have to - and when it does flag something, it gives you (or whoever you hand it to) exactly what is needed to get it fixed.

📣The Overstretched Marketer

You are responsible for the website but you are not a developer. SiteVitals gives you clear alerts you can act on - or hand straight to your agency. You can share reports or give your agency direct access to the dashboard, so they always have the context they need without you having to translate it.

🤝The Agency Account Manager

Your clients expect you to know when something is wrong with their site. SiteVitals helps you get ahead of problems before they become awkward conversations.

💛The Charity Team

Important work, limited resource. The last thing you need is a website issue eating your time and budget. We have worked with national charities for years - we understand the pressures.

🏢The Growing Business

You are scaling, you are busy, and your website cannot be a liability. SiteVitals keeps an expert eye on things while you focus on the things only you can do.

⚙️The In-House Developer

You know what to look for - you just cannot watch everything at once. Let SiteVitals handle the monitoring so you can stay focused on building.

The Humans Behind It

A small agency. A very long track record.

Lisa

Lisa

Co-founder · Client Experience · The Bridge

I started out as a freelance web designer and developer, which means that even though I am not deep in the code these days, I can still navigate a server, hold my own in any technical conversation, and — crucially — translate between developers and the clients who just need their website to work.

SiteVitals was my idea. After years of watching clients encounter the same avoidable problems — slow pages, expired domains, ranking dips nobody noticed — I wanted a tool that would catch it all before it became a crisis. Tom then got his geek on and made it even better than I had imagined.

I read every piece of client feedback that comes in and bring it back to the product — most of the features we have added have started with a real conversation, a real problem, or a near-miss we never wanted to see again.

Co-founder · Lead Developer · The Builder

I have been building websites and web applications for over two decades. In that time I have worked on everything from small business sites to platforms handling 2.4 million visitors a day. I have been the technical backbone for large design agencies, helped build digital departments from scratch, and solved problems that did not seem to have solutions.

When Lisa came to me with the idea for SiteVitals, working out the right technical approach took real thought — the web never stops moving and neither do the problems it throws up. Then I kept extending it, because there was always one more thing businesses needed to know about their site and simply did not.

If there is a technical problem to solve, I will find the most elegant way to solve it. Then probably add three more features while I am there.

Your website is running.
But is it running well?

Find out what SiteVitals can see that you cannot - and start catching problems before they catch you out.
